That brand new crimping tool broke on the third job in Bakersfield
I picked up a fresh crimper last Tuesday thinking it would last me at least a year. Third house I hit, the ratchet just gave up and slipped right through the fitting. Didn't even get a solid connection, just a loose mess. I had to drive back to the shop for my old beat up one, which worked fine like it always does. Has anyone else had new tools fail way faster than the old standby gear? What brand actually holds up for you guys?

Aw man, come on now. That old beat up tool you dragged back out probably should have been retired years ago, and you know it. New tools fail sometimes because they're made to tighter tolerances, which means when they break, they break for a real reason, not just because they're worn out like your old one. The ratchet slipping was probably a fluke, a lemon, or maybe you didn't seat the fitting just right on that third job. Every old tool out there was new once, and if everyone gave up on new gear after one bad day, we'd all still be using rusty pliers from the 80s. Give the new one a fair shot before you write off every fresh piece of equipment that comes your way.
