Tone generator vs. my old toner probe, wish I switched sooner

For two years I used a cheap probe that needed both wires clipped to test lines. Last week on a rough commercial job in Phoenix, I grabbed a modern tone generator with inductive coupling and traced a buried drop in about 8 minutes. My old method took 30 plus and I still guessed on two splices. If you're still using the clip-on style, try the inductive type before your next service call. Has anyone else found one brand way more reliable in heavy interference?

Man, I felt that "still guessed on two splices" part in my bones. Nothing worse than thinking you're done and having that little doubt gnaw at you the whole ride back to the shop. Glad the new one is treating you right, that 8 minute trace sounds like a dream.

You ever spend 20 minutes tracing a line only to realize you had the wrong pair the whole time? Yeah, that was me last Tuesday. The new gear is nice, but I still double check my own work out of pure spite.😅
