Tried that fancy cable toner from Harbor Freight and it surprised me

Picked up the $20 Cen-Tech toner probe kit on a whim because my Fluke died on me mid-job last Tuesday in Austin. Figured it would be junk, but it actually caught a dead pair in a bundle of 25 cat6 runs where I was certain the issue was a bad keystone. Am I crazy for thinking this might be a decent backup for the van?

Yeah grabbed one of those last month and same thing happened to me. I was sure it was a bad patch cable but the toner found a crushed spot in the wall where a staple got driven through. Wild for twenty bucks.

I saw a guy on YouTube test one of those tones through a wet phone line and it still worked fine.

My buddy Chris grabbed one of those last month for a side job in Round Rock. He was down in a crawlspace chasing a short in some old phone lines and that little toner actually found a corroded splice behind a junction box. He said the probe picked it up clear as day even with all the dust and cobwebs down there.
