Finally got that sticky shutter on a 1973 Pentax Spotmatic working after three evenings of cleaning the old lube off the curtain tracks.

I was about to give up and call it a parts donor, but a final pass with some lighter fluid on a cotton swab did the trick, and hearing that crisp 'click' again felt like a real win.

That scrap money is usually less than people think. A few hundred bucks at most for most cars that still roll. Meanwhile a running car, even one with body damage or a bad transmission, is worth way more if you can sell it private party. I've seen guys at the store scrap trucks they could have sold for three or four thousand easy just because they got impatient. The scrap yard is for when the car is actually dead and not worth fixing. You have to be honest about whether the repair cost is really more than the car's value. Otherwise you're just burning cash for no reason.

That's just a temporary fix, honestly.

Yeah, "temporary fix" is exactly right. I tried something like that last year and it totally fell apart after a few weeks. Felt like such a waste of time.
