Well new vs old is a totally different ballgame - old ones are harder to find parts for, but new ones have all that plastic garbage that breaks if you sneeze on it.

500 repairs is wild, good on you. I'm with @alice928 on the old vs new thing though - plastic parts on new ones stress me out way more than hunting down used parts for old ones.

Plastic parts are hit or miss, but I've seen plenty of well made modern appliances hold up for years if you don't buy the absolute cheapest option. The used parts hunt can turn a simple fix into a week long project, and sometimes you just end up with another broken piece. I'll take injection molded plastic that actually fits over rusted brackets and stripped screws any day.
