Paid $180 for a "vintage lens CLA kit" on eBay and it was just baby oil and q-tips
Honestly I feel like a moron even typing this out. Saw a listing for a "pro lens cleaning kit" that came with some mystery fluid, a lens spanner, and a little brush, and the seller had solid feedback so I pulled the trigger at $180. Got it last Tuesday and the "spanner" was a bent piece of coat hanger, the brush shed fibers all over a Canon FD 50mm 1.8 I was working on, and the mystery fluid smelled exactly like baby oil. I lost about $180 plus two hours cleaning oily streaks off that front element, and I'm still not 100% sure the coating didn't get hurt. Gave the whole thing to my shop cat to knock off the bench and bought a real set of JIS drivers and some Eclipse fluid from a known supplier instead. Anyone got a go-to source for actual lens spanner wrenches that don't bend the first time you put torque on them?
