Pro tip: watch out for the tiny spring under the shutter speed dial on a 1970s Nikon F2, because I spent a frantic 45 minutes crawling around my shop floor in Seattle after it launched into orbit.
Has anyone found a better tool than a magnet on a stick for chasing those little demons?

Honestly, magnets are a total trap. I've had way more luck just using a bright flashlight and a piece of tape on my finger. You lay on the floor, spot the glint, and just dab it up. Magnets always seem to attract every bit of metal dust and grime except the part you actually need.

Lost a tiny screw to a Hasselblad once, and my magnet just pushed it further under a cabinet.

Watched my magnet launch a tiny bolt straight into a floor vent once, total disaster.

Oh man, that reminds me of the time I dropped a washer and it bounced right into the gap behind the kitchen kickplate. Had to take the whole thing apart!
