Stop telling new folks to clean focus rings with lighter fluid
A guy brought me a Nikon 50mm f1.8 last Tuesday that a Facebook group told him to flush with lighter fluid, and the grease washed straight into the glass. I have fixed 30 or so lenses in my garage in Boise and not one needed a solvent bath, just a lens spanner and patience. Where did this lighter fluid tip even come from, and does anyone here actually use it on their own glass?
