The way people handle old film cameras has really shifted
A few years back, most folks just wanted them cleaned up to work again. Now, about half my clients ask for full cosmetic restoration too, even if it costs extra. Has anyone else seen this move toward treating cameras like display pieces?

Noticed that shift too, but it started earlier for me. I've been getting requests for cosmetic work on classic SLRs for at least five years now. People want them to look good on the shelf even if they never load film.

Yeah, that's the whole vibe now. They're decor first, cameras second. Makes you wonder if the next generation will even know how to operate them.

Counterpoint is that a lot of younger folks are learning film because of those cameras sitting on shelves. It's not just decoration when Instagram and TikTok are full of kids figuring out how to load a Pentax K1000. They see the aesthetic, get curious, and then actually shoot. The barrier to entry is lower than ever with used gear being cheap too. Film sales have been climbing for years now, so someone must be buying it. Maybe the shelf queens are just gateway drugs to the real thing.

Consider the film stock they'll never buy.
