Vent: a customer brought in a Nikon F3 with a shutter that sounded like gravel
The curtain was dragging, and the usual cleaning didn't fix it. I put a tiny drop of Nyoil on the pivot points of the second curtain mechanism, not the tracks, and it's been smooth for a month now. Has anyone else had luck with this specific fix on older metal shutters?

My old F3 had that same gritty sound last year. It reminds me how often a single, precise fix solves what seems like a major problem. We tend to overcomplicate things when the answer is usually simple.

Yeah, @angelam80, that's so true about simple fixes.

That's a solid fix for the short term, but heads up, Nyoil can dry out and get gummy over a really long time. It happened on an old FM2 I worked on. For a more permanent fix on those metal pivots, a tiny bit of watch oil or a proper synthetic camera lubricant is usually better. It just lasts way longer without causing issues down the road.
