I was dead wrong about those cheap camp chairs

For years I refused to spend more than $20 on a camp chair because it's just meant to hold you up around a fire, right? But after my third one snapped a leg at Timothy Lake last summer while I was sitting down, I finally caved and bought a $70 chair from a brand my buddy swore by. That was 8 months ago and it's been through 12 trips without even a wobble. The fabric is still tight and the cup holder actually fits my big hydro flask. Has anyone else had a cheap chair fail on them in a way that made them upgrade?

Yeah, I was the same way... always figured a chair is just a chair until you're sitting on the ground with a broken leg in your hand. The thing that finally made me switch was watching my buddy's cheap chair fold up on him while he was holding a hot cup of coffee. He went down hard, coffee everywhere. I got a Kelty Lowdown after that, it's been like three seasons now without a single issue. The fabric is still tight and the legs don't wobble at all.

Five years ago I had a cheap Coleman chair buckle on me at a campfire. Landed right on my tailbone and I still feel it sometimes when I sit too long. Your buddy's story is exactly the kind of thing that makes you never trust a $20 chair again. That hot coffee to the chest sounds like a nightmare, glad nobody got burnt bad. I ended up going with an REI chair after that and it's held up through rain and mud and my kids jumping in it. Funny how one bad fall changes your whole outlook on something you never thought about before.

Same thing happened to me last summer with a no-name chair from a big box store, and I've been looking at outdoor gear completely different ever since. Never thought I'd be the guy worrying about chair welds but here we are.
