My $8 dry bag fix outlasted my friend's $65 Sea to Summit

I was setting up camp in Yosemite last fall and realized my old dry bag had a hole. Instead of buying a new one, I grabbed a tube of Aquaseal and some spare nylon from a repair kit. That patch has held through three river crossings and a week of rain so far. My buddy's expensive bag already has a seam leak after half the trips. Anyone else ever fix gear instead of replacing it and have it work out better?

That $8 fix outlasting a $65 bag doesn't surprise me. I did the same with a sleeping pad. Had a tiny puncture from a sharp rock, used a patch kit from a bike tire repair. Thing's held air for two years now. Meanwhile, my buddy's fancy inflatable pad delaminated after one season. Sometimes the cheap fix is just built tougher than the expensive gear.

Right there with you. I patched a hole in my old camping chair with a $3 tube of glue and it's still going strong while my friend's new chair broke at the rivets after two trips.

That patch job probably has better karma behind it too.
