Exactly what my buddy told me last winter after we had to replace his old bag. Hang it in the closet or toss it under the bed loose and it'll last way longer than you think. You just stuffing it back in that tiny sack every time?

My sleeping bag is twenty years old and I've stuffed it in the compression sack every single trip. Still works fine for summer camping, still puffs up enough to keep me warm. Storing it loose is definitely gentler on the loft, I get that, but I think the whole "you'll ruin it" thing gets blown out of proportion unless you're storing it compressed for months at a time or have a really high-end down bag. A little bit of compression for a week or two between trips hasn't killed mine yet.

Yeah man that lesson always hits hard after the first time you ruin a bag.
