Question about the $80 camp chair I swore I'd never buy
I called those fancy lightweight chairs a waste of money for 6 years until my back gave out on a trip to Moab last month, and now I want to know if anyone else switched sides after one bad night on the ground.
I did the same thing, talked trash about those chairs for years and then slept on rocks in Utah and changed my tune real fast. What worked for me was hitting a gear shop and actually sitting in a few before buying, because the seat height and back angle matter way more than the weight on the label. I ended up with a chair that has a real frame instead of the tippy tripod kind, and my back thanked me the whole next trip. My advice is to skip the ultralight ones if you mainly car camp, the few extra pounds are nothing compared to waking up without a knot in your spine. Set it up in the store, lean back hard, and see if it wobbles. Six years of being wrong was enough for me, one bad night is plenty for you too.
