Rant: My 'ultralight' sleeping pad popped on a granite slab in the Sierras
I was on a three-day trip near Bishop, and the thing just gave out with a sad hiss on the first night. I spent the next two days sleeping on my folded-up rain jacket and learned that four ounces of saved weight isn't worth a cold, sleepless back. Anyone have a bombproof pad suggestion that can handle sharp rock?

That "sad hiss" is the worst sound in the backcountry.

Nothing ruins a hike faster than that little puff of air. @quinnm77 gets it. My old sleeping pad sounded like a tired balloon animal giving up. You're just lying there, feeling the ground get harder, knowing your good night's sleep just walked away. Makes you want to pack a whole extra pad just in case.

Ever try to patch one in the dark?
