Tried a whisper fan in my tent and it sounded like a jet engine all night

Picked up this little battery fan last summer before a trip up to the Dolly Sods area. The packaging had a picture of a quiet campsite and this fan promising barely a hum. First night I set it on low and it made this high pitched whine that cut through everything. I thought maybe it was defective so I tried the medium setting and it got worse. My buddy in the next tent texted me asking if I was running some kind of generator. Tossed it in the trash the next morning and just used a bandana to catch the breeze from the tent flap. Did I just buy a cheap model or do all these little fans make that racket?

@felixlane my buddy bought the same one and his cat hid for three days.

Honestly I'm gonna be the weird one here and say my whisper fan is actually pretty quiet. I got one from Walmart for like 15 bucks and it's got this little hum but nothing like a jet engine. Maybe you just got a dud? I've seen a lot of people complain about those high pitch ones but mine's been fine for three summers now. Or maybe the tent fabric was right up against the blades amplifying the noise or something.

Three summers on a $15 fan? Ngl that's wild, mine started smoking after like one season.
