Vent: My new sleeping bag failed me in the Sierras last month

Took a Marmot Trestles 15 out for a weekend in Yosemite and the temp dropped to 28. I was freezing all night, and the zipper snagged. Anyone have a solid 3-season bag rec that actually holds up?

Bet the marmot was warmer than you were. Classic case of a bag rating being pure fantasy. Check out Western Mountaineering if you want the real deal.

Were you using a sleeping pad too?

My old Thermarest from 2008 still works perfectly fine on every trip.

The Marmot Trestles 15 is actually a solid bag for what it costs. The temperature rating is for survival, not comfort, and expecting a synthetic bag under $200 to keep you warm at 28 degrees is asking a lot. You probably could have worn a base layer and a hat and been fine. The zipper snag is annoying but every bag does that at some point. Did you check if the bag was lofted properly or if it got damp from condensation? Modern gear is good enough for most trips if you use it right.
