Wool blanket weight difference blew my mind

Grabbed my old army surplus wool blanket and a fancy new one back to back at a shop last week. The surplus one weighed almost 4 pounds and the new one was barely 2. Even new one was supposed to be warmer. How do they lose that much weight without losing insulation? Found a review site that broke down wool types and that explained the whole thing. Anyone else notice big weight swings in their gear?

Man, same thing happened to me when I swapped my old German surplus blanket for a modern one. The weight difference was insane, but the new one keeps me just as warm somehow.

German surplus? Like the ones with the huge weight to them that feel like moving a sandbag? No kidding the new one works just as good, thats wild. I figured those old ones were just built different for a reason.
