Wore cotton socks on a 3 day trip in the White Mountains and my feet paid for it
It was on the last day walking down from the ridge. My heels were raw, socks were soaked from a stream crossing, and I could not figure out why everyone else was fine. A guy named Dave at the shelter looked at my feet and just said cotton holds water like a sponge. That was it. It was so obvious I felt dumb. Switched to wool after that and the blisters stopped. Anyone have a sock brand that holds up past one season? I keep blowing through them at the heel.
Darn Tough is the only sock I have not worn a hole through at the heel, they have a lifetime warranty so you just mail the dead ones back. Merino wool also dries way faster than cotton, which is the real reason your feet stopped blistering.
