Drove 45 minutes to a bookstore in Toledo for a signed copy, then saw the author's old tweets in line
I got to the bookstore in Toledo around 6pm, 45 minutes from my house, because I'd been waiting 3 years for this author to tour near me. While standing in line I pulled up her old tweets from 2016 and found a bunch of mean stuff she'd said about fans who asked for free copies. I had a choice right there: put the book back and walk out, or buy it and just not mention the tweets online. I bought it, read it in two days, and honestly it was a 4 out of 10. Now I can't decide if I should've walked out or if buying it anyway was the right call. Has anyone else had a moment in line where you found out something about the person signing your book?
Feels like the same thing happens with every "hero" we build up in our heads, then the internet shows us the real person underneath. Reading it anyway was fine, but a 4 out of 10 stings more when you drove 45 minutes for it.
