Found a statistic about how many people switch careers after 40 and it shocked me
I was reading a Bureau of Labor report last night and saw that only 3% of workers over 40 change to a completely new field each year. Has anyone here made a big career shift later in life and how did you handle the pay cut?

Read an old New York Times piece that said most older career changers actually end up happier even with the pay cut. The article mentioned people value having more control over their time and work that aligns with their values more than a bigger paycheck. Seems like the real shock isn't the statistic but how many people are willing to prioritize that over money.

Oh @davis.olivia you're making me feel judged over here, I changed careers at 40 and took a 40% pay cut and honestly some days I still wonder if I'm just really good at convincing myself I'm happier. But then I remember I used to cry in my car before work so maybe the bar was just THAT low. The real shock is how long it took me to admit my time was worth more than a bigger number on a paycheck.
