I charged $150 an hour for the first time and the client said yes

I've been fixing cars for 15 years, but only started my own shop three years ago. I always kept my labor rate low, thinking it was the only way to get business. Last month, a guy brought in a classic Mustang with a tricky electrical problem. I quoted him my new rate, which was a big jump from my old one. He agreed without blinking, and I fixed it in four hours. The total bill was more than I'd make in a full day before. It made me realize I was selling my skill short for years, just because I was scared to ask for more. Has anyone else had a moment where they finally charged what they were really worth?

Took me way too long to learn that lesson myself. I used to practically pay people to take my work. Realizing your own value is a wild feeling, man.

Honestly I still struggle with that, it feels selfish sometimes.

Charge what you want but don't be shocked when people stop calling.
