Just realized my mentor's 'never job hop' rule worked for 2005, not 2024
My old manager in Austin told me straight up last week that anyone who leaves a job before 5 years is "damaged goods," and he said it with a straight face over coffee. I get the loyalty thing, but he bought his house on a hiring market that doesn't exist anymore, and telling a 26 year old to sit tight for half a decade feels like advice from a different world. Am I crazy for thinking staying put is the bigger risk now, or do some of you actually agree with him?
