Lost $800 on a 'career coaching' package that was just generic advice
Paid $800 for a 6 week career coaching program from someone with a fancy website and a bunch of LinkedIn followers. After the first session, it became clear they were just reading off a script. Tips like 'update your resume' and 'practice interview questions' - stuff I could get for free on YouTube. I asked for a refund after week 3 and they said no. Has anyone else gotten burned by pricey career coaching? What should I look for to avoid this?

Fancy website and LinkedIn followers" is your first red flag honestly lol.

Had a buddy who fell for that exact setup. Dude hired some guy with a slick site and like 15k LinkedIn followers for a marketing gig. Turned out the guy couldn't write a decent email to save his life and the followers were all bought from some bot farm. My friend was out a grand and had to redo everything himself. Now whenever I see a shiny profile with no real substance, I just assume it's all smoke and mirrors.

Totally agree with @fionam11, but it goes way beyond LinkedIn. Im noticing this same fake-it-til-you-make-it stuff everywhere now. Had a contractor who showed up with a new truck and a logo on his shirt but couldnt even level a shelf. And Ive seen people in business groups who talk a huge game about their "network" but when you actually need a referral they go silent. Its like everyone figured out that looking successful is easier than actually being good at something. What gives with people skipping the work and just buying the props?
