My manager told me my project updates were too long and it really helped
I was working on a big report for a client in Chicago and my boss pulled me aside after a meeting. She said, 'Noah, your emails are good but cut them down to three bullet points max, people are busy.' I started doing that and got way faster replies and fewer questions. Has anyone else had to change how they talk about their work?

Tell me about it, emma96. I used to write these epic emails that basically had a table of contents. Now I force myself to write the three bullet points first, like "found the data error," "fixed it," "report is ready Friday." All the scary details go in an attachment nobody opens. It's weird but my boss loves it.

Three bullet points max? That sounds impossible for a client report in Chicago. My updates are like a full page just to cover the basics. How do you even fit the important stuff into three lines?

They probably just read the first three lines anyway. Save the trees, skip the novel.
