Picked a commission-only sales job over a salary role and it's backfiring hard
I chose a job at a startup in Austin paying 100% commission instead of a $45k base salary position at a bigger company 6 months ago. After sinking 3 months into building a pipeline, I've only made $4,200 total and my savings are almost gone. Has anyone else gambled on commission work and found a way to turn it around or should I just quit now?

My first commission check was $187 after three months of cold calling for a software company in Phoenix. I literally framed it because I thought it was so funny how little I made. I ended up staying 8 months and made a grand total of $3,400 before I finally quit and went back to waiting tables. The only way I "turned it around" was by realizing I'm just not cut out for that kind of gambling with my rent money.

Friend of mine did something similar. Sold cars for six months. Commission structure meant if you didn't sell, you basically paid the dealership to be there. He framed his first paycheck too. It was for $42 and some change.
He kept it hung up in his garage as a reminder. Said it taught him more about what he didn't want than any job ever did. Now he runs his own landscaping business. Tells people that $42 check was the best investment he ever made. Proved he wasn't cut out for that hustle culture bullshit.
