PSA: I heard a manager say 'we can always find another painter' about a guy who was late twice.
That's a fast way to lose good people over small stuff. My crew guy was late because his kid got sick, and I gave him a pass. Anyone else see bosses throw away talent for dumb reasons?

I used to be strict about being on time, but I saw a good worker quit over a single late mark. Now I ask why before I write someone up.

Oh man, that's so smart. I've seen the same thing happen. A guy on my old team got a warning for being five minutes late after his car broke down. He was our best problem solver and just felt so disrespected. He was gone within a month. Checking in first saves so much good will.
