PSA: I saw three people in my network get passed over for a promotion because of one line on their resume

They all had 'managed a team' but didn't list a single number, like 'cut costs by 15%' or 'grew sales by $20k'. My old boss in Atlanta told me she just skips those vague lines now. What's a better way to show you led a project without hard numbers?

Actually, I disagree. That advice feels like it only works for sales jobs. For a lot of roles, the real impact is softer, like improving a process or training new hires. You can describe that without a made up number.

But soft skills still need hard proof to show they matter. A made up number is better than no number at all.

Wait, you'd just make up a number?
