Question about a hiring sign I saw at the hardware store in Bellingham

The sign at the checkout said 'Now hiring, no experience needed, we'll train you on the job,' which made me wonder if more places are finally willing to invest in training people from the ground up again.

Yeah, the "perfect candidate off the shelf" thing reminds me of when I tried to hire a helper last year. I put "willing to learn" as the main thing and got a guy who'd never touched a dolly. He turned out to be my best worker now because he actually cared.

That's a good sign to see. A lot of places got too used to wanting perfect candidates right off the shelf. Hopefully this means they value a good attitude over a perfect resume.

Right, because nothing says "we value attitude" like making you jump through six rounds of interviews and a personality test. I mean, they'll still want you to have ten years of experience in a five year old tech. But hey, at least they'll smile while they tell you no. Maybe it's just me but I'll believe it when I see someone actually get hired for being a decent person instead of a perfect checklist.

Oh man, the personality test is my favorite part. Nothing shows your true colors like picking which abstract shape you'd be on a Tuesday. So when do we start the trust fall exercise?
