Used to think networking events were a total waste of time... changed my mind after a meetup in Cleveland last spring
For years I just showed up to career fairs and handed out resumes like candy. Never got anything from it. Then at a Cleveland tech meetup in April, I grabbed coffee with a guy who mentioned his company was hiring for a role that wasn't even posted yet. We talked for 20 minutes about how they used Python for data pipelines, and I ended up getting an interview that week. Now I focus on talking to 3-4 people deeply instead of trying to shake every hand in the room. Has anyone else had a random conversation that actually led to a job offer?

Not convinced one coffee chat is a whole career strategy.

Whoa wait, you're actually saying one coffee chat is supposed to be your whole career plan? That sounds like something a LinkedIn guru made up to sell a course.

Yeah, one coffee chat and I thought I'd solve my whole life... guess I still overestimate my caffeine intake.
