Appreciation post: The client who asked for a 'floating' deck but meant a regular one on blocks
I spent a whole afternoon sketching out a cantilevered design with hidden supports before they showed me a picture from a magazine of a basic deck sitting on concrete blocks, which honestly saved me about 15 hours of framing work.

Oh man, that's the best kind of mix-up. I once had someone ask for a "full gut job" and they just wanted the popcorn ceiling scraped. Saved us a ton of demo and let them keep their old cabinets.
