Just realized a trick for getting perfect crown miter cuts every time
I was doing a big job in a Denver house with crazy ceiling angles. My cuts were always off by a hair. Tried the old 'measure the wall angle' method, still wasn't right. Then I saw a guy on site just hold the crown upside down against the fence, like it was baseboard. Tried it. Cuts were perfect. Saved me like 3 hours of rework. Anyone else use this upside-down trick for their miter saw?

Yeah that trick saved my butt last week. Felt like an idiot for not trying it sooner. I was about to blame my saw.

Honestly it's wild how often we blame the tool instead of the technique... I've seen guys get so mad at a brand new drill they almost returned it, then someone shows them how to hold it different and it's like magic. Makes you wonder how many other simple fixes we're missing because we're too busy getting frustrated.

That's just how we handle tech problems too.

Oh man, I gotta disagree a little bit here @andrew921. I mean, yeah, technique matters a ton, but sometimes the tool really is just junk. I've had a few times where I swapped out a cheap blade for a decent one and suddenly everything cuts smooth as butter. No amount of holding it different would've fixed that. It's usually a mix of both, not always just one or the other.
