My contractor buddy insisted I needed a $400 Japanese pull saw for fine joinery

Bought one for a walnut cabinet project and honestly, my $30 western saw did the same job in the same time. The cut was maybe 5% cleaner, but not worth the price tag for most of us. Anyone have a tool they were told was a game-changer that just wasn't?

Oh man, I was the same way about those fancy saws. Always figured you needed the best tool. But after trying a few, I get it now. Sometimes the basic thing does the job just fine.

Yeah saw a video on that. Guy built a whole deck with just a basic handsaw.
