That one engineer who wandered onto my site still bothers me
I was working on this custom staircase in a house out in Oak Ridge about two months ago. This guy in khakis walks up, says he's a structural engineer from some firm I never heard of, and starts pointing at my stringers telling me I cut the treads too deep. I kept my cool, showed him my layout marks and the span calculations I did myself. He just shook his head and walked off muttering something about a 200 pound load test. Later I found out he wasn't even assigned to that project, he was just some neighbor who used to design bridges. Still sticks with me because I second-guessed my own work for three days after that. Has anyone else had random people on site try to tell you your framing is wrong when you know you're right?
