The $40 chalk line that changed my layout game

I used to think expensive chalk lines were a scam, my $8 one worked fine for 10 years. Then I borrowed a buddy's at a site in Nashville and the snap was so crisp I didn't have to re-mark a single stud. Has anyone else found a tool upgrade that actually saved them time on every job?

Hold on before you toss that $8 one. I get the crisp snap thing, but most guys I know who buy those fancy ones end up chasing the line weight or the case cracking when it gets cold. You're still snapping against the same wood, and dust and dirt are gonna clog any chalk line eventually. Honestly, the big win for me was learning to snap slow and pull the string tight, not the tool itself. Tbh, I'd rather spend that $40 on good chalk and a spare hook, because that's what actually kills my time on a job. Ngl, if it works for you, great, but I've seen too many guys baby a chalk line like it's a laser level.
