The one tip about stair treads that saved me 3 hours last week
I was building a set of stairs for a client in Columbus and kept messing up the tread spacing. An old timer walked by and said "just lay out your stringers with a framing square and a set of stair gauges, then cut all your risers at once." Stupid simple thing but it cut my time in half. I had been cutting each riser separate like an idiot. Anyone else ever get tripped up on something that dumb?

Holy crap, wait. You were cutting each riser one at a time? Like marking them out individually after the stringers were already assembled? That's insane man, I can't believe nobody told you sooner. That old timer must have been watching you for a while before he said something, probably couldn't take it anymore. The stair gauge trick is the whole point of using a framing square, I'd be lost without those little clamps.

Ha! Bet he was trying to see how long you'd keep at it.
