Vent: I keep seeing people cut crown molding flat against the saw fence
I was helping a friend in Austin redo his living room trim last month and he was laying the crown flat on the miter saw table. He said a guy at the hardware store told him to do it that way. I showed him to hold it at the same angle it sits on the wall against the fence, like it's upside down. The cuts fit perfectly on the first try. He was shocked. How many of you still see this being taught wrong?

Flat on the fence works fine once you figure out the spring angle and compensation cuts.

Check the manual for your specific saw. Mine has a diagram right on the side showing the proper crown position against the fence. Sometimes the best advice is already printed on the tool.
