Almost gave up on power stretchers after a knee kicker fail in Dayton, glad I switched
Last Tuesday I was doing a 40 yard berber job in a rental out near Trotwood and my knee kicker kept slipping on the last stretch by the closet door. I was about to say forget it and just staple it down like I did for 12 years thinking that was good enough. A guy named Ray from the supply house on Third Street asked me why I was fighting it and loaned me his power stretcher for the day. Took me 20 minutes to figure out the tail block and pins but that stretch came out so tight you could bounce a quarter off it. Now I'm looking at $340 for a decent one and wondering why I waited this long to change my mind. Anybody got a brand they trust or should I just grab the one Ray has?
Man, that quarter bounce is the whole point right there. A knee kicker gets you by but a power stretcher actually locks the carpet in place, especially on berber where one bad row shows forever. That last stretch by a closet door is exactly where kickers fail every time, the angle is wrong and you end up fighting it. Ray did you a solid loaning his out. I would just buy the same one he has since you already know it works and he can show you the tricks.
