Best day on the job last week: zero callbacks for the first time in months

I had a run of three houses in a row where the seams actually stayed invisible after stretching. One was a tricky L-shaped room with a weird door cutout, but the padding was just right. Anyone else ever get a stretch of perfect days like that?

Disagree completely. Padding has almost nothing to do with invisible seams on tricky rooms. It's all about the power stretcher and how you work the carpet fibers before cutting. On that L-shaped room, I used standard rebond padding with a high moisture barrier, and the seams still vanished because I spent extra time power stretching parallel to the seam line before I ever locked it into the tack strip. The only time memory foam helped me was when the subfloor had a low spot, but on level floors it actually made the seaming harder because the carpet didn't want to relax evenly.

Ask what type of padding you used on that L-shaped room. I've had the same luck with a certain brand of memory foam padding on tricky layouts, but only when the subfloor was dead level. Did you notice anything off about the floor before you laid it down, or was it just a smooth install from start to finish? Because sometimes I think the padding makes or breaks those perfect seams more than the carpet itself does.

Same here, my "perfect streak" ended when I tripped over my own power stretcher and landed face-first in a fresh glue-down. Guess my padding game needs work after all.
