Pulling staples with a hammer and chisel beats the electric staple remover on old jute backing
Everyone on the crew keeps pushing the electric staple remover, but on 20 year old jute backing in a house off Riverside Drive it just chews up the backing and sends staples flying. I switched to a hammer and a 1 inch wood chisel on a tear out two weeks ago and my pull time dropped by about 40 percent per room. The electric tool works fine on new tack strip, but that old jute just shreds and you end up chasing busted staples across the floor. I knocked out a 600 square foot living room in three hours instead of the five it usually takes me. Anybody else go back to hand tools on the old stuff, or am I the only one still doing it this way?
