Spent 3 hours wrestling with a drop-in gripper yesterday when a kick-strip would have done the job in 20 minutes

I was dead set on using that old-school drop-in method for a tricky doorway transition, but after fighting with alignment and pinched fingers, I swapped to a simple kick-strip and it clicked right in. Has anyone else found themselves stubbornly sticking to older ways when the newer gear just works better?

Did you end up trying to kick the strip in from the start on the next one, or did you still find yourself reaching for the gripper first out of habit? I've got a buddy who swears by his old ratchet straps for pulling carpet tight even though he's got a power stretcher sitting in his van. He says the old way just feels right in his hands even when it takes twice as long. Do you think it's more about muscle memory or just not wanting to admit you bought the wrong tool for the job?

Yeah, you love the classics until your fingers are bleeding.

Ngl I learned that lesson the hard way trying to sight-read a Chopin etude after a six pack of cheap beer. My left hand still twitches when I hear a loud G minor chord. At this point my fingertips have more calluses than a homeless guy's feet. But hey, at least the neighbors get a free concert of me swearing at sheet music every Saturday night.
