Straight blade vs serrated for old glue-down, made the switch

Been doing glue-down carpet pops for 15 years, always used a straight blade for the old cushion back. Last week on a job in Fresno, the glue was so gummy my straight blade kept skipping. Swapped to a serrated blade mid-room and it cut through like butter. Anyone else run into this, or is it just my luck with older adhesive?
