The seam that turned into a Jackson Pollock in a $2M condo

I was doing a seam in a penthouse on the 14th floor in Denver when my heat iron dripped melted adhesive onto the brand new beige carpet, and it stained within seconds, so I had to cut out a 3x3 square and patch it while the owner watched me with a glass of wine, and now she asks me if I do art restoration too, has anyone else had a tool malfunction turn into a bigger job than planned?

Figure out the insurance angle before you touch anything else. That carpet in a $2M place is probably some high-end wool blend that costs more per square foot than what you charged for the whole job. If the owner claims it on her policy, the adjuster might come back and say the patch isn't up to the original spec, then you're stuck redoing it for free or worse, paying for a full replacement. I'd take photos of the patch now, get her signature on a work order that says it's acceptable, and keep that receipt for the adhesive batch number. That way if the stain bleeds through later or the glue fails, you've got proof it wasn't a hack job on your end.
