Took me 4 hours to find a wall stud that wasn't there
Last Tuesday I'm installing a plush carpet in a 1970s ranch in Dayton, and the customer wants a floor-to-ceiling pole installed after. I had to cut the carpet around the baseplate, but my stud finder kept buzzing on every spot, so I drilled 6 holes before I realized the whole wall was plaster over metal lath, no studs at all. Finally used a magnet to locate the screws and got it done, but that pole should've taken 45 minutes. Any of you guys deal with mystery walls that turn a simple job into a full day?
