Warning: I used a new 'fast-dry' seam sealer on a Berber job in Tempe last Thursday and the edges lifted within 12 hours.
The label said it was good for all carpets, but it clearly couldn't handle the backing on that specific fiber, so now I'm out the cost of the sealer plus a full day to redo it-anyone know a reliable brand for synthetic Berbers?

That's the thing with a lot of products now, the "good for everything" label is basically a guarantee it's good for nothing specific. It's not just seam sealers, it's like every cleaner or adhesive. They make one formula, slap a universal label on it, and let the customer be the tester. You end up wasting more money and time than if you just bought the right specialized product in the first place.

Tried a universal cleaner on my bike chain and it just made a greasy mess. Went to the bike shop and got the specific degreaser they use. Worked perfectly on the first try. Now I just ask a pro for the exact product they would use for the job. Saves so much hassle and you know it will actually work.

Skip the universal stuff for Berber, it never works right. I keep a gallon of Roberts 6700 for jobs like that, the stuff actually grabs the backing. You have to let it get tacky before you set the seam, but once it dries it stays put. Learned that the hard way after a callback in Mesa that cost me a whole afternoon.
