Pro tip: I started counting how many times cartoon characters blink, and now I see the animation budget everywhere
Last Tuesday I was watching a 90s cartoon and noticed Bugs Bunny blinks maybe twice in a whole 7 minute short, so I started counting on purpose. Turns out newer shows have characters blinking way more, like every 2 seconds, and you start seeing which scenes got the cheap treatment. Has anyone else noticed a specific show where the blink rate totally gives away how rushed the episode was?
Bugs blinking twice in 7 minutes is just how old cartoons worked though, they didn't have budgets in mind like that. Back then they held poses longer and used limited animation on purpose, it's a style thing, not a money thing. Some people just like finding hidden meaning in stuff that isn't really there. Yeah newer shows blink more but that's because the art got smoother and faster, not because someone was rushing. Not everything is a conspiracy about the animation budget, sometimes a blink is just a blink.
