I finally turned off the captions on apology videos and it changed how I score them
Watched two celeb apology clips back to back with sound only, no subtitles, and the one from the guy who cheated on his tour bus in Dallas last spring went from a 7 to a 2 because he never once said sorry out loud, so now I'm wondering if anyone else here thinks the closed captions are doing half the emotional work for these people.
The "never once said sorry out loud" part got me because I did the same thing last month with my own family, turned off captions during a big holiday apology and realized my uncle spent four minutes talking about his feelings and zero seconds on the actual thing he did. My wife caught me grading him like a judge on a cooking show and asked why I was taking notes, which was fair. Now every time someone gives a big speech in our house I'm secretly scoring them, and honestly I'm the worst one at it. My last apology to her was like a 3 and I had captions on.
