Talked to a PR guy about the James Corden apology clip

My buddy who works in crisis PR said the key tell is when they mention their family - it's a shield, not sincerity. In that 3 minute video Corden said 'my wife and kids' 4 times while looking down, which is classic deflection. Anybody else notice that pattern in celeb apologies?

Honestly, I've seen that guy's apology and I think people are reading way too much into it. Mentioning your family four times in a three minute video sounds like he's trying to be relatable and show he has real people depending on him, not that he's hiding. Most of the time when celebs try to apologize without bringing up their family, they get roasted for being cold and selfish, so it feels like a no-win situation.

Friend of mine kept saying "my kids" in his apology and got roasted for oversharing.

Oh please, the guy literally turned his apology into a Wendy's commercial for how sorry he was about "his family." Four times! That's not relatable, that's a hostage situation with a PR script. I mean, if I messed up that badly, my first instinct wouldn't be to count how many times I can squeeze in a wife reference. It's like he was playing apology bingo and "mention family" was the free space. Honestly, the only thing missing was him holding up a photo of his kids while crying into a handkerchief. At least own the mess without turning your loved ones into human shields.
