That $200 apology from a D-list influencer felt totally fake

I bought into one of those celebrity apology merch bundles last month. It was from a TikTok star who got caught lying about a charity thing. The bundle cost me $200 and came with a signed photo and a cheap hoodie. The whole thing felt like a cash grab, not real remorse. Has anyone else bought one of these and actually felt like it was genuine?

Honestly I kinda see it differently. That hoodie you got probably cost like 10 bucks to make but the signed photo might actually mean something to a young fan who looks up to them. People mess up and if they're trying to make it right by putting out physical stuff that takes effort to produce and ship, that's more than just a text apology. I get why it feels fake but at least they're doing something instead of just posting a note and disappearing.

Wait, you actually paid $200 for that? I had to read that twice. I get that younger fans might feel differently about signed photos, but two hundred bucks for a hoodie that probably cost a tenth of that to make feels more like a transaction than an apology. In my experience, if someone's truly sorry they find a way to make amends without putting a price tag on it.

Oh man, I wasted $50 on some YouTuber's "my bad" candle that smelled like regret and desperation, so I feel your pain on a spiritual level. At least your hoodie will keep you warm while you second-guess your life choices.
