The 'crying eyes but no tears' trend in celeb apologies is getting old

I used to just watch an apology video and take it at face value, but now I pay attention to the little things. Last week with that actor's apology about the DUI, I counted 12 seconds before he even showed any emotion. Then when he finally wiped his eyes, there were zero actual tears. Has anyone else started looking for the fake sniffle or the pause they take to read a teleprompter?

People keep getting hung up on whether celebrities cry or not. Maybe it IS a performance to some degree. But I also think we're asking too much when we demand perfect displays of guilt on camera. Some people just don't cry on command even when they're genuinely wrecked inside. The real issue is whether they actually change their behavior after the apology, not if they fake a sniffle.

You really hit on something with that shaky sigh before they speak. What worked for me was ignoring the video completely and just waiting to see what they do in the next few months after the apology. That's the only way to know if they actually mean it or not.

Wait for the shaky sigh right before they claim to be deeply sorry.
